Dr Sam Paritt MD, PhD.

Dr Sam Paritt MD, PhD.

Co-ordinating Investigator (CI)

Dr Paritt is a Research Fellow in the Department of Anatomy and Medical Imaging and the Centre for Brain Research. He is the principle investigator of the clinical study funded by the Lottery Health Research, New Zealand. He has established the research team focusing on non-invasive neuromodulation for adjunctive therapy of neurological conditions with a new approach of the tele clinical trial. He has more than 15-year experience in clinical research using his background in medicine, neurosurgery, and PhD in Deep Brain Stimulation (Imperial College London). He will bring his expertise in biomedical engineering for the development of new interventions to stroke, traumatic brain injury and spinal cord injury research in New Zealand. He holds a NZ Good Clinical Practice (GCP) certificate (2020 and 2022).

As the project leader, he has overall responsibility for the study, including adherence to established ethical standards. His role includes designing the TENS protocol, preparing documents and reports (clinical trial registration, ethical approval, data monitoring safety, research questionnaire, clinical survey). He will conduct the clinical trial (recruitment, interview, follow up, monitor and investigating adverse events) with participants recruited from the community. All procedures have been leveraged into the online platform known as the tele-trial model using video conference, courier services, webpage, mobile app, and secure data storage via the virtual computing machine. He will collect, analyse and interpret the data and will prepare reports and manuscripts for publication in the World’s leading journals and international conferences.
